August 28: Open House of KWC

If you are new to Kobe or you haven’t had the opportunity to attend a Kobe Women’s Club meeting before, we would like to invite new newcomers, potential members and current members to this Open House event. This will give you a chance to preview the Kobe Club location in the Kitano without the chance of being late for a program. You can get the latest information about our club, including our history, past and upcoming exciting programs and make some new friends!
Take pleasure in visiting the Kobe Club, where many of our meetings are held, and view the slide show of our 100-year history while enjoying tea, coffee and scrumptious homemade desserts. Why not set foot in a new community and expand your network!

September 4: Opening Show “MUSIC X HISTORY”

The year 2017 marked the 150th Anniversary of the Kobe Port Opening in 1868. The Kobe Club will also celebrate its 150th Anniversary in 2019. Our KWC has been growing along with the city of Kobe and the Kobe Club. To commemorate these big milestones, Kobe Club members William & Kei Foran will present a photographic journey, accompanied with live music by pianist Minako Tsuruta, from Germany. It will highlight the dramatic growth and development of Kobe as well as its international organizations through time, including Kobe Women’s Club. Don’t miss this grand opportunity to learn the amazing Kobe history with us.

September 11: Yakimono

World renowned Japanese pottery expert and art dealer, Robert Yellin, who resides in Kyoto, will take us on a journey through Yakimono (Japanese Pottery) and the culture behind it. Robert has been fascinated with the art of Yakimono since moving to Japan in 1984. He is frequently asked to write on the subject for major media outlets and is a regular speaker on the global circuit. Big thanks to CHIC for supporting this event! Come find the beauty and joy of this treasured art form.

October 9: Matcha Tea

Holly Holt will tell us about her journey to Japan, her experiences living overseas as a young girl, her passion for Matcha, and her current business of Japanese tea.
Together with her British business partner, Alex Sanson, she will demonstrate how to whisk and steep delicate green tea, then introduce us to the modern Matcha that will be available in her new café. The KWC Matcha café will then be open and she will let us sample her specialties. Don’t miss it!

November 13: Beauty of Japanese Lacquerware

Japanese traditional lacquerware has been highly valued worldwide with its quality and beauty from practical and aethetic point of view. Misako Mimura, an owner of online shop “Saiga” , will elaborate the background of lacquerware and also showcase her collections which will be widely used for not only Japanese table coordinating but also Western style party settings. She will demonstrate with her items how to coordinate your table on various occasions for the upcoming party season. You will be enchanted by the magic of Japanese art!

February 12: Living in Africa

What would you say if your spouse came home and told you his company was transferring him to Africa? Lenka Vecerova, a native of Czech Republic, knows this situation first-hand. She embraced the opportunity and came to love Africa, its culture, artworks and people. Come hear Lenka talk about her adopted country where she spent 6 years with her family.

March 12: Storytime Yoga

Today we will learn the ancient art of oral storytelling! Storyteller and yoga teacher, Sydney Solis, will give us the nuts and bolts of telling tales and delight us with her magnetic personality. She will share her stories and we will learn to spin our own stories as well as put them to simple yoga moves for peace, health and literacy. Join us and participate in stories enacted through yoga.
April 16: Jazz Session

This will be a command performance by Lorna Cifra, professional Philippine vocalist, and the Jets band, Mari Itohara, Yuri Ito, and Tetsuo Kondo, who braved an impending typhoon to deliver an amazing performance the last time they visited us. We had a surprising turnout by our members that day, but in case you missed their talents the first time, be sure to come for their entertaining jazz show.
May 21: TELL - Need to Talk?

You may have seen advertisements for TELL, but you may not be familiar with their services. They have been offering multilingual mental health care since 1991 in the form of workshops and confidential English-language telephone counseling. They tackle tough topics such as eating disorders, anti-bullying, dementia, parenting issues and dealing with the stresses of life. Sandra promotes the importance of socializing and connecting with real people, which is what Kobe Women’s Club has always been about!
